Ahhh March. That time of year when the weather is unpredictable; and Spring Fever is in full swing! Spring break is this month and summer is just around the corner. There is always something going on in Colorado Springs and we want to keep you in the know! Events are organized by date to help you find what you are interested in quickly.

March 1: Kids Craft With Pike’s Peak Children’s Museum | 4-5pm (New Center Point Location) Join the Pike’s Peak Children’s Museum for an hour of crafting at Whole Foods Market! FREE

March 2: Nature Adventures Class @ Fountain Creek Nature Center | 9-10:30am This class is for 3-6 year olds. Typical class includes short hike and activities around a theme. This month’s theme is Wild About Wolves. $3 per person (including siblings and parents). REGISTRATION REQUIRED. 

March 4: Wonderful Wings-Day at the Museum  | 10am-2pm Join us in celebrating choice enrollment at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum in hangar 1 at the Lowry Air Force Base! A tour of the base, the B-57, flight simulators and the interior cockpits of DC10 & B-727 will begin promptly at 11am – don’t miss it! Teachers and staff will be available to answer all of your questions. Register to attend at: http://bit.ly/2wingsmuseum Invite your friends and family for a day of entertainment & education!

March 4: Michael’s Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make a Nature Journal, you shop! $2 per child

March 4: Star Days: Tinkering | 10am-4pm There is an inventor in you! Use everyday items to make amazing things. This engineering-themed Star Days will get your creativity flowing as you use your brain to solve problems and find out how things work. Star Days activities include:

  • Science On a Sphere® presentations
  • How it Works: Inside of Toys
  • Strawbees®
  • K’NEX® toys for building and exploring
  • Windtubes
  • Ball Maze
  • KEVA® Planks
  • Circuit Blocks
  • Create an Automaton: 11 a.m.-12 p.m. & 2-3 p.m. Enjoy a playful way of exploring simple mechanical elements with a personalized creative machine. Cost included with price of admission to Discovery Center.

 

 

March 9: Kids Craft With Pike’s Peak Children’s Museum | 10-11am (Academy Location) Join the Pike’s Peak Children’s Museum for an hour of crafting at Whole Foods Market! FREE

March 10: Twos and Threes Outdoors@Fountain Creek Nature Center | 9-10:15am This class is for 2-3 year olds. Typical class includes short hike and activities around a theme. This month’s theme is Curious Coyotes. $3 per person(including siblings and parents). REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

March 10: Preschool Program: Hummingbirds| 10-11am Preschool program at the Garden! Join KC for this fun, free educational program. Enjoy a short story followed by discussion and a take home craft. Please call 719-219-0108 for reservations and information. REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

March 11: Michael’s Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make Fairy House, you shop! $2 per child

March 18: Countdown to Kindergarten Carnival | 10am – 12pm Come try lots of fun activities that will help you explore all the ways to get ready for Kindergarten! Free book, free snacks and lots of fun activities. This activity is designed for children 5 and under and their parents. FREE

 

March 14: Space Story Party@Space Foundation Discovery Center | 10:30-11:30am Designed to spark an interest in STEM in young learners. Appropriate for ages 2-5. From their site:  “Did you know that March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday? Come celebrate the wonderful books of Dr. Seuss with us. We will step back from our usual space theme and celebrate the wacky themes and silly rhymes of Seuss. Come as your favorite Seuss character, enjoy reading Seuss books and create Seuss-a-ful crafts!” Cost included with price of admission to Discovery Center.

March 15: Children’s History Hour-Keep Climbing! | 10:30am Julia Archibald Holmes was the first known woman to climb to the top of Pike’s Peak! No one thought she could do it but she believed she could succeed. Learn the story of Julia and read about why it’s important to believe in ourselves when we read “Keep Climbing, Girls.” We’ll explore Julia’s story in the Story of Us exhibit and then make our very own climbing critters. $2 suggested donation, free for museum members. For ages 2-6. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. 

March 15: Nature Explorer’s Class | 9-10:30am This class is for 4-5 year olds. Typical class includes short hike and activities around a theme. This month’s theme is Gnaw-It-All Rascals. $3 per person (including siblings and parents). REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

March 17: Fine Arts Center Free Day | 10am – 7:30pm Museum Free Days are just that, an opportunity for the public to enjoy our galleries free of charge with artist demonstrations from 10am to 2pm in the Smith Family Gallery. This event is recurring on the third Friday of each month! If you go, make sure to check out the tactile gallery where kids are free to touch the art on display.  FREE

March 18: Michael’s Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make a Fingerprint Floral Canvas, you shop! $2 per child

 

March 19-23: A Taste of Briargate 2017 | Five Days of Fabulous Food featuring special menus & offers from the restaurants at The Promenade Shops at Briargate. Visit participating restaurants and savor the delicious offers available this week only! Enter to win a $100 gift card from the restaurant of your choice. Entry boxes available at specific shops & restaurants during the 5 day period.

March 22: Little Wonders Class @ Bear Creek Nature Center  | 9-10:15am This class is for 2-3 year olds.  Typical class includes short hike and activities around a theme. This month’s theme is Knowing our Noses. $3 per person (including siblings and parents) REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

March 25: Michael’s Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make a Watercolor Frame, you shop! $2 per child

March 29: Family Star Party | 6:30-8pm An evening of looking to the stars and discovering the wonders of the universe. This event creates a fun learning environment for the whole family and inspires the next generation of astronomy enthusiasts! All outside activities are free to the public, and discounted admission is available for those wishing to explore the Discovery Center and Science On a Sphere® inside.

March 31: Spring Break@Library 21c:Cool Science| 10:30-11:30am Ice cream science! We’ll learn how ice cream is made by making our own… in less than 5 minutes! To do this we’ll use one of the coldest substances in the world – liquid nitrogen – and see just what it can do to ordinary materials.

 

City Rock CLIMBarium Open Gym | Monday-Friday from 11am-1pm This open gym time is for children 5 and under. $6 per child (18 months and under free with paid sibling). 21 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs

Music and Movement for Two and Three Year Olds | Mondays 10-10:30am (Rockrimmon Library), Tuesdays 10:30-11am (Cheyenne Mountain Library), Wednesdays 9:30-10am, 10:15-10:45am, 11-11:30am (Library 21c), Fridays 10:30-11am (Penrose Library & Ruth Holley Library) Shake those wiggles out and have some fun! This 30-minute program consists of music and movement activities and a story. For two and three-year-old children, with a favorite adult. Due to high attendance, certain branches issue a token to the first 20 FAMILIES, on a first come, first served basis. FREE

Kristal is a native of California, lived in Utah, and now lovingly calls Colorado Springs home. She grew up in a household with four younger siblings and graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz. She and her husband are raising their elementary school aged children in the Briargate area. With kids in school full time, Kristal is an active member of the PTA, and spends time working in local schools. She is passionate about connecting moms in our community. In her spare time, she enjoys long walks in the aisles of Target, dancing it out in Zumba classes, drinking copious amounts coffee, cooking dinner as a form of therapy, and last but certainly not least, spending time outdoors with her family.
