My Farmer’s Market Favorites in Colorado Springs

2

I know I am a little late in the game to be exploring the local Colorado Springs Farmer’s Markets, but hey- my excuse is that I am still *new* here 😉

I have been frequenting the Farmer’s Markets recently and I wanted to share with you my experiences. For a list of Farmer’s Markets in Colorado Springs, you can visit here, and continue reading to check out my reviews from a few of my favorite spots!

So, just as a preface- I live out East in Peyton which means I don’t frequent areas that are close to I-25 or anything North of me. With that being said, here is my top favorite place to visit.

It’s more like a “fruit stand” because Smith Farms has their own little pop up shop with no other vendors like a typical farmers market. Smith Farms is located on the corner of Meridian and I-24. I think the draw for us, besides them being down the street from us, is they have a lot of fruits and veggies- and you can buy tomatoes and apples and peaches by the box! To the right is also some BBQ if you are hungry for some lunch, and to the left… well… it’s a “coffee” truck. It’s called ESPRESSO… with a big X through the name and skimpy looking girls on the outside of the truck. A little birdy told me  there’s a girl in there who’s in a skimpy bikini serving up some coffee. HMMMM, well, that’s totally not my thing. HOWEVER, if it is your thing, then maybe you will want to come and visit the Smith Farms fruit stand… and the bikini girl.

The Vista Grande Baptist Church Farmer’s Market is my second favorite. It’s small, and it’s open on Thursdays from 9am to 3pm, which is convenient for us, because it’s easier to do our shopping during the week. We got some amazing honey from some local ladies there, (praying it helps with our allergies!) and it was at this farmers market where we were first introduced to Miller Farms. They have a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. For more information click here. I have never been involved in one before, so when I saw people coming with huge wicker baskets, and filling them to the brim with produce, I just had to get in on that! Now, the local season for becoming a part of a CSA is usually June through October, much like the farmers markets. I got in on it a little late, but I can’t wait to fill my first bucket!

We also recently visited the Banning Lewis Ranch Farmer’s Market which is later in the afternoon on Thursdays from 2pm- 7pm. It’s also small, but I found these awesome popcorn people there. They are called Corny Cravings and my girls loved their popcorn. It’s interesting to meet a variety of different vendors and find out more about their small businesses! We were also met by an awesome guy who does the Royal Crest deliveries. I had no idea what those white containers outside the front doors of all my neighbors were, so it was good to find out some information about it.

I am so excited to visit the Chapel Hills Mall Farmer’s Market because I have heard a lot of great things about it! I don’t generally go to that area often, but it’s going to happen this weekend! They are open on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm. I know Miller farms will be there and a lot of other awesome vendors so I am looking forward to it.

What other farmer’s markets are great to visit? Let this *new* girl know where to go!

XOXO- Jenna

  1. Great post Jenna! I haven’t been to any of those. My absolutely fav is The Colorado Farm and Art Market, which is at the Margarita off Woodmen on Saturday mornings. It has the most local-made fare and the atmosphere is serene. 🙂 The same market has a couple locations and they’re all good.
