I’ve Fallen Head Over Heals For Fall

Fall1

The changing leaves and the crisp air…Honestly, it makes me want to dance around and break out singing a newly written version of Julie Andrew’s, These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things with a fall theme. This is my favorite time of year!

There is so much about the fall season I love that I start looking forward to it before the summer season has even ended.  Since my love for fall cannot be contained, I’ve decided to compile a list of my favorite fall activities. Most of these can be done no matter where you live, so even if you don’t have the crisp air and changing leaves, you can still have the warm feeling of fall in your heart!

1. Go apple picking. Gather up the family and go to the nearest apple orchard/farm. Many will have additional activities and opportunities for amazing photos.

2. Go for a hike. The crisp air will make it even more enjoyable. You will also likely encounter amazing photo ops along the way too!

3. Go camping. Take one last camping trip before the weather gets too blustery. Pack warm clothes and snuggle up to a campfire and tell stories at night. What an awesome way to end the summer!

4. Go to a high school football game. Even if you don’t know the players, it is fun to support your community and it will make you feel nostalgic. I’m sure your local team would love the support too!

5. Collect leaves with your children or significant other and make a leaf collage.  Spending time creating art can be a great way to bond even if you don’t have children.

6. Bake an apple pie from scratch. Yum! Maybe you can use some of the apples you get when you go apple picking.

7. Make caramel apples and take some to your neighbors.  This is such a great way to bond as a family and connect with your neighbors.

8. Make a big pot of soup and invite your friends over to play games.

9. Tour a winery with your significant other. Make sure you sample a lot of wine!

10. Make Fall decorations with your kids and hang them all around your house. I love the sense of pride my daughter has when she sees her work hanging throughout our house.

11. Plan family Halloween costumes. We do this every year and our entire family looks forward to it.

12. Rake leaves and then jump in the pile. Make sure you let your kids have a turn!

13. Take a drive through the country or the mountains to see the changing leaves. Stop and take it all in. Let your little ones compare the leaves.

14. Have a bonfire with your friends.

15. Plan a fall bread swap with your girlfriends. Each of you makes five loaves of yummy fall bread and swap at an afternoon get together. Make sure you have wine on hand!

16. “Boo” your neighbors! Gather together a basket of fall/Halloween treats and leave it for two of your neighbors with a note for them to boo two more. (This is a ding-dong-ditch activity) I have found the kids get more excited about the giving than the receiving!

17. Go to a pumpkin patch and participate in every activity with your kids. They will treasure that memory, plus playing in the corn is really fun!

18. Take a hayride.

19. Make a scarecrow with your little ones after reading, The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything.

20. Attend a fall festival.

21. Have a pumpkin carving party. Challenge your friends to create their own design. Offer candy prizes for awesome designs!

22. Begin journaling about what you are thankful for.

23. Rake your neighbor’s yard.

24. Drink apple cider outside on a brisk night.

25. Roast pumpkin seeds.

26. Put your kids in dorky matching fall outfits and take a million photos so you can embarrass them later.

27. Make a jack-o-lantern pizza.

28. Gather pine cones and make a bird feeder with your kids.

29. Buy a pumpkin. Let your kids paint it teal and place it on your porch to let your neighbors know you will have safe choices for kids with allergies.

30. Take your kids trick-or-treating. Dress up with them. You can only get away with it for so long.

31. Steal all the good candy from your kids stash! Hey, you worked hard to make this a fun season!
