My Daughter’s Football Dreams

My 12-year-old daughter eats, sleeps, and breathes football. She has played on several flag and tackle football teams over the years and recently joined the Jr. High football team. During her free time, you can either find her at the park tossing a ball around with her dad and siblings or in her room watching current and past games.

School is starting back up this week, as is her Jr. High football season. She has been practicing hard, and we can’t wait for her games to begin. We are grateful that her school allows both males and females on the field. If you were to ask her how she feels about being the only girl on the team, she would shrug. She cares more about playing her best, growing her skills, and having fun. Isn’t fun what it is all about?!?

She has her sights set on playing professionally for her favorite team, the Las Vegas Raiders. Right now that seems like a pipe dream. But with current trends and changes within the sport, the future is bright for female football enthusiasts. In fact, the Raiders are currently in the headlines for bringing on Sandra Douglass Morgan, the first female black team president.

Future For Football

As the mom of a female player, I was delighted to check out futureforfootball.com and their YouTube feature on The Utah Girls Tackle Football League.

The highlight for me was sharing the episode with my daughter. She was inspired by the other females out on the field who share the same vigor and passion that she has for the game. It also pumped both of us up about the possibility of there someday being a girls-only league in Colorado.

Dream Big, Sweet Girl

I am excited to see where my daughter’s football goals take her. Even though it is a predominantly male-driven sport, she goes out there and does what she loves, dreams big dreams, and refuses to see the barriers. As her mom, nothing makes me prouder.
