Some flowers are red, some flowers are blue,
But people shouldn’t be defined by those colors too.
This election rages in a heated debate,
Fostering anger and bringing out hate.
It’s hard to feel united as a country of one,
When the goal of the media is to shock and stun.
It seems I can barely bring myself to engage,
Tuning in stems violence, anger and rage.
I wonder how my family will manage to provide,
In a country whose goal is to expand the divide.
Can we not come together? Can we not end this fight?
To protect our children and teach them what’s right.
But I see no plans, no ideas, no new compromise,
Just bitter and banter, it’s all just a guise.
When the worst of two evils seems your only choice,
What is the point in sounding your voice?
You know the political scene can’t get any worse, when the only way to express your frustration is by verse. But seriously, I know I am not alone in my thinking that November 8th can’t get here fast enough. Red, Blue or indifferent in your feelings about this election, let’s all be a little more purple. We are all Americans and my hope and prayer is that we can be the leaders in our own communities. We must remember to be kind, be honest and set the example for our children. Our future depends on it.
What do you think? Will the country come together regardless of which way the numbers fall?
