When You Hit the Floor: Words for the Broken Woman

These words are for the broken woman. I see you, mama, crying at the kitchen sink. These words are for the broken wife. It’s for the woman too busy to even ‘break.’ To the one that is numb, or angry, or sees herself in almost every single mama meme. I just wanted to write you to let you know that you are not alone… I see you.

Run one more mile, cry in the shower, drink that wine, eat that pastry, buy those shoes, scream at the bag lady, roll your eyes at the person asking one too many questions- you may find only momentarily relief. My solace has come one too many times from my steering wheel. I have missed my exits and played those songs too loud. I know late at night that you may plead and beg to a God that you may or may not believe in to save you from these wretched feelings.

There is no amount of food, gifts, nights out with friends, bedtime stories, or self-help books to make these feeling go away. I wish I could write you a list of five things to do to make you feel better. I don’t have that list. I wish I could tell you in time it will be alright, and yes, it probably will. But right now, in this moment, you are hurting. You are struggling. Right now, you are lost in your brokenness.

So, I give you the only gift I can– to tell you, sweet sister, that you are not alone.
That this blog found you. That this is a hug from me to you. I pour love into you. I’ll stand in faith for you. While you are on the floor too weary to see beyond this moment, I will stand tall and tell you that I believe for you. I believe that it will get better. I believe that your breakthrough is coming. I see you. You are NOT alone. I am fighting for you.

Cry. Fall apart, and when you stand up….stand up in the name of and for the other mighty and beautiful broken women. Stand up for those lost in their despondency. Stand up for their brokenness. But until then, know that I am standing for you. Praying for you. Believing in you when you can’t. This is just a little love and a lot of hugs sent your way.

You, my dear, are a warrior meant for many great and mighty things. Even if these things seem small or trite or little. Your purpose matters. Until you are ready to rise, to walk in your victory, know that there is a team of women standing strong for you. And, when you are ready, we ask that you too, will also stand strong for other women lost in their isolation, their brokenness, and their despondency.

Be well, friend. When you are ready, share this with a friend you are willing to stand beside, behind, and fight for.

After growing up in this city and as a Colorado native, Crystal has a deep love for these mountains, especially 'that mountain' and cherishes our symphonic sunsets. When she is not playing in our purple mountain backyard, teaching high school, taking classes at the University of Denver or happily engaged in the daily banalities, Crystal enjoys any excuse to dress up; She likes to go to the theater, laugh at comedy clubs, and of course, she loves girls’ nights out (regardless if that is with her girlfriends or her daughters.) She listens to old school rap, 90’s music or songs a little too ‘dramatic’ while lifting weights, and country music while cooking/baking. Although the mountains are her home, she is more of a sunshine and water kind of girl; summer is her absolute favorite season. She is the single mama to her two darling daughters. The three of them spend their time engrossed in dance parties, reading one more story and they always find the time to cuddle and laugh about everything and absolutely nothing. She is excited to share glimpses of her life with you. She assures you that by no means is she perfect; she is simply a mother trying to fiercely love her children, her people and her community. Oh, and of course—GO Pioneers, Broncos, Rockies, Avalanche, Nuggets and Sky Sox!
