Spring Wellness FeaturedI love that spring time brings waves of green, fresh air, sunshine, adventure and health. The inspiration of the spirit of growth and change is contagious. I don’t know about you, but I am ready for some change. A change in scenery, schedule and routine. I want to embrace the whimsy of the Spring season and sweep away the dreary and the unnecessary. Needless to say, I need some Spring cleaning in my life.

Two of our family values are health and play which I firmly believe go hand in hand. The more healthy we are the more we can play and the more we play the healthier we are! So when I think of Spring cleaning, the first thing that comes to mind is my wellness routine.

What can I do to better pursue health for myself and for my family this season?

What are some simple steps I can take to clean out my wellness routine?

Robin Williams once said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!’” Tis’ the season for change and it is surely in the air, so without further ado, let’s get this party started!

Here are 20 of my favorite ways to Spring clean your wellness routine:

1. Visit local farmers markets!

This is a great way to support your local communities as well as find quality fruits and vegetables to serve your friend and family.

2. Try restorative yoga.

I think we could all use some rest and relaxation and yoga is one of the best ways to still a busy mind and body. It relieves muscular tension, improves mobility and flexibility, boosts your immune system and balances your nervous system.

3. Clean out your schedule.

Remove unnecessary activities and meetings, turn off unimportant notifications and create time for what’s truly important. Keep it simple and enjoy a slower pace.

4. Prioritize getting quality sleep.

Quality sleep is restful and restorative. Start a new nighttime routine and try go to bed at the same time every night. Like in most things, consistency is key.

5. Find a workout buddy.

Working out with a friend will help you stay more motivated, accountable and on track. Plus, it’s tons of fun!

6. Eat fresher, lighter and seasonally.

In May, Colorado yields lots of beans and greens as well as other vegetables like arugula, asparagus, fava beans, garlic, mint, peas, radishes, rhubarb and spinach.

7. Workout and play outside.

Laura Ingalls Wilder said, “Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.” I could not agree more! Spending time outdoors, let alone working out outside has incredible benefits! It boosts your mood, creates more of a challenge, improves mental and physical health and relieves stress. So run outside and soak in that vitamin D!

8. Detox!

By that I mean get rid of cleaning supplies, makeup, candles, food containers, carpeting, furniture, etc. anything that contains unnatural, chemical and toxic ingredients. We are surrounded by chemicals every day but the good news is that a healthy body can work hard to cleanse the toxins out of your body! Creating a healthy, toxin free home, exercising and getting outside is the most powerful way to detox.

9. Work hard and play hard!

Be adventurous and sign up for a race or play a new sport! This will help keep you active and motivated!

10. Wear sunscreen all day every day!

Wearing sunscreen is the best way to protect your skin and prevent sunburn, skin cancer and premature aging. Make it part of your daily routine!

11. Revamp your wardrobe (especially your workout clothes).

Let me tell you, quality sports bras are game changers! Get the support you deserve and update your legging collection while you are at it! It is worth the investment to wear clothes that make you feel strong and sexy.

12. Do more joyful movement!

Avoid exercises and activities that you dread! Do what makes you feel happy, energetic and inspired. If you love hiking, go on a long hike or pursue a challenging incline. If you love biking, hit the trails and try new paths! Do what feels good and right for you.

13. Take a break from social media.

Marie Kondo coined the phrase “spark joy” If it doesn’t spark joy, unfollow. She also said, “If it doesn’t bring you joy, get rid of it.” If social media isn’t healthy for you, even if it’s just for a season, get rid of it. See how you feel after taking a break.

14. Meal plan.

“Your health is an investment, not an expense.” Buy the food, cook it and prep for success. Trust me, the work and investment of time and money in meal planning is absolutely worth it. YOU are worth it!

15. Read more books.

Boost your imagination and creativity while relaxing with a good book (bonus points if you’re outside reading!). Marcus Tullius Cicero said, “If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” I LOVE that! If you need some book recommendations check out my latest post!

16. Focus on hydration.

Drinking water helps regulate your body temperature, prevents illness, delivers nutrients to your cells, keeps your organs functioning properly, improves sleep quality and cognition and boosts your mood! The question is, what can water not do?! Hydration is pivotal especially living in Colorado!

17. Clean out your fridge and pantry.

Start fresh by cleaning out anything that is not healthy for you and for your family. This way, anything that is in the house is a strong choice to eat!

18. Create a new playlist or check out a new podcast!

A good podcast or an epic playlist can distract you from fatigue and discomfort from a tough workout, keep you motivated and elevate your mood. You might just find yourself moving better, faster and longer!

19. Hire a personal trainer.

If you aren’t getting results, or are bored with your current fitness routine or simply want to add intensity to your workouts, hiring a personal trainer is the best way to get results and have fun in the process.

20. Focus on self care.

This could look like creating a better morning routine, journaling, going to a therapist, or starting a new skin care routine. Anything that will make you feel fresh, feisty and fabulous!

I challenge you to shed the heaviness of the winter season and allow the light, warmth and color of Spring to bring you fresh perspective and renewal. Josiyah Martin said, “The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all.”

You can tap into the healing power of the season by making a few simple changes to your wellness routine that will lend powerful results!

If you are on the Spring cleaning train, try a few of these and let me know how it goes! I would LOVE to hear about your wellness routine!
