A Mom’s Guide to Craft Beer in Colorado Springs {Summer Edition}

1

Yes, I am a mom who happens to love craft beer.  Colorado Springs is an amazing city full of unique breweries to taste the rainbow of beers.

My husband has inspired my love of craft beer.  I grew up in the midwest, and beer for me was usually Bud Light…until I was slowly and surely encouraged to go out on a limb and try new styles of beer.

Here are some of my favorite local places to enjoy a date night with my husband or a fun night out with girlfriends.  This is our Summer Edition, so be sure to try these out and stay tuned for the next edition coming this Fall!

Note :: We love using Uber or Lyft for a designated driver home after date night or girls night out. Please enjoy responsibly.

Favorite Local Bar :: Brewer's Republic

Cozy up to the bar at Brewer’s Republic and have a nice chat with the staff.  This place has the best variety of any local bar that we have found.  With 20 rotating taps, you are bound to find something that you love.  You will rarely ever go to Brewer’s and know what is on the beer menu, and this establishment gets the most unique beers – many of which you can’t find on tap anywhere else in Colorado Springs.

They have their own in-house food menu.  It is a small establishment, so it does get crowded and a bit loud on the weekends…but that just goes to show it is one of the best spots!  And in the summer months you can spread out on the patio for a little more room.  Brewer’s Republic is a local gem in the downtown area.

112 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Favorite Local Brewery :: Manitou Brewing Company

Manitou Brewing Company :: all things wonderful!  Beer, cute little patio in an alley, truffle fries, pork belly tacos, more beer.  This place is outstanding.  MBC is a favorite stop after a trip up the Manitou Incline.  We have called from the base of the incline and ordered food, which came out piping hot just minutes after we arrived.  The service is excellent and you cannot beat the alley vibe in Manitou.

They have their own menu of in-house food and it is some of our favorite fare.  Paired with their local brews, it is a match made in heaven.  They also have rotating guest taps, and they get a great selection.

Two to Try :: High Ground IPA and Camarillo Brillo Sour (if you have not tried Sours, take the plunge.  They are so refreshing and great for summer!)

725 Manitou Ave, Manitou Springs, CO 80829

Favorite Local Brewery :: Smiling Toad Brewery

It doesn’t get much more down to earth than Smiling Toad Brewery.  There are many qualities to love about this establishment, but the friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere are the best.

There is typically a food truck on site.  Smiling Toad Brewery recently moved to a new space on 8th Street, so go give them a visit at their new location.  We promise you will meet the nicest people –owners, staff, brewers and patrons alike.  The Smiling Toad is just an all around happy place, and who doesn’t love some extra happy?

Two to Try :: Fulcrum Imperial IPA and Coconut Brown (seasonal)

1757 South 8th Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80905

Favorite Local Brewery :: Great Storm Brewing

Great Storm Brewing has been named “One of Colorado’s Top 10 Craft Breweries to visit before you die” according to The Culture Trip, and for good reason.  This brewery has a very laid back, neighborhood like feel.  Tucked away off Nevada Ave, you could easily miss it if you didn’t know about the legendary, local craft brews.  This a great place to meet up for a casual afternoon and great conversation.

Food trucks are here on a regular basis, and if you watch the Great Storm Brewing Facebook page, you will be in the loop on the food truck schedule.

Two to Try :: Seven Wolves IPA and Rum Raisin Stout (Nitro)

204 Mount View Ln, Ste 3 Colorado Springs, CO

Favorite Local Liquor Store :: Veterans Wine and Liquor

Sometimes what sounds the absolute best after a long week of parenting and work is to enjoy your favorite brews on the patio at home or curled up on the couch!  This is honestly my favorite option.  We love Veterans Wine and Liquor for nights like this (we don’t go anywhere else for beer, wine or liquor!)   The staff is amazing (Robert is usually the one there – so friendly and will help you find whatever you need), and their craft beer and cider selection is top notch.  I’m not sure anyone else in Colorado Springs can compare.  So, when you want to have a fabulous night at home, give them a visit.  You will not be disappointed.

There you have it, Mamas!  Some of us love wine, others coffee; I happen to enjoy craft beer.  Let me know your favorites below and we will be sure to check them out before our Fall Edition :: A Mom’s Guide to Craft Beer in Colorado Springs.

Tonya
Tonya grew up in Iowa and attended the University of Northern Iowa, where she majored in Health Promotion (the degree you choose when you know are meant to make an impact but you don’t know exactly how) After graduating in 2003, her adventurous spirit lead her to pack up her little car and move to Colorado Springs. Her heart was easily won by the beautiful landscape, the amazing weather, colorful Aspen trees, and the fabulous people in this city. In 2008, she married her love and best friend, Ryan. They added two amazing boys to the family…Landon (2009) and Kellan (2011). After a rewarding career as a Director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and a sales representative for Pfizer, her heart desired more time with her boys. In 2011, she became a work from home mom, focusing on her very busy boys full time and her health and wellness coaching business part time! Her passion as a mom includes building legos, trips to the zoo, family hikes, fishing, and camping. Her passion as a health coach is helping people see their potential, reach goals, and lead a healthy lifestyle. In her spare time (what is that again??), she loves working out, running, and reading. Her favorite things to do with her handsome hubby include riding bikes downtown Colorado Springs for date nights, hiking the incline, trying new (exotic) foods, spending time with great (adult) friends, and trying craft beers (inspired of course by her husband!).
