My Favorite Outdoor Places in Colorado Springs

favorite places in Colorado SpringsI’m a CO girl at the core and adore living on the west side of Colorado Springs. This amazing city just keeps getting cooler, but the best part of the Springs hasn’t changed in millennia. The sparkle of this city is the majestic nature so close to home. Here is a list of my favorite outdoor places in Colorado Springs.

N. Cheyenne Canyon Park

The beauty in N. Cheyenne Canyon  is unrivaled in the area. This canyon has the best places for river wading in the city, as well as a super nature center and famous short hikes such as Helen Hunt Falls. It also connects to Gold Camp Road at the top for a fun drive and excellent views.

Garden of the Gods

I know, I know, it can be touristy. But this place is also so cool! People come from all over the world to see Garden of the Gods. It is in our backyard and it is free! Totally a reason to explore this park regularly.

Red Rocks Canyon Open Space

The rock formations here are nearly as neat as Garden of the Gods and there are zero tourists. In my opinion, the hiking is better here. Take the west side routes in the morning and the east routes in the afternoon for best shade.

Bear Creek Park

Bear Creek Regional Park has a super variety of options: a dog park, playground, an awesome nature center and lots of hiking trails. We love this place for a quiet area to take an easy nature walk.

Manitou Incline

The Manitou Incline is another favorite of mine because of its rugged challenge. It is not a good option for young children, but I look forward to the day when my kids can join me on the hill. I believe this “hike” is occasionaly closed for maintenance; this page should keep you up to speed. Can anyone out there confirm when the next maintenance is?

Paint Mines

Officially called the “Paint Mines Interpretive Park,” this place is about an hour east of Colorado Springs but totally worth the drive. Elementary-aged kids or geological buffs will love the mineral colors and rock formations.

We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful, diverse, nature-rich area. Do your soul a favor and explore somewhere new outside this week. Maybe I’ll see you there!  🙂
