I’ve never been one to wish away the winter. Generally, I’m a fan of snow and don’t mind the cold. But this year, I’m over it. I’m ready for summer.
Dreaming of Last Summer…
The summer of 2019 was one for the books. It was the first year I felt comfortable going on more adventures with both kids. My husband and I had our first-ever night out of town with no kids. And I really embraced the flexibility I have to work remotely with my job. Spending the summer swimming, camping and biking was so much fun and I’m ready for it to make a comeback.
Winter in Colorado Springs hit fast and hard this year with some big snow storms early on that have already taken away the excitement of any more snow days that may lie ahead. My kids are three and six years old. So while they enjoy playing in the fresh-fallen snow, that entertainment eats up a small percentage of the day.
The cold is also getting to me more than usual. Is that just because I’m getting older? Walking in the beyond-brisk weather isn’t invigorating or romantic anymore – it chills me to a point that’s difficult to recover from even once I’m back inside a centrally heated building.
Flowy Dresses, Morning Walks…
I don’t want to sound like I’m just complaining but this longing for summer has been on my mind so much lately. Throwing on flowy dresses in the morning and not having to worry about wearing fleece tights and a heavy jacket just sounds really appealing right now.
The school-year rhythm and routine are comforting to me and I love not having to strategically open and close the windows in our house for maximum cooling depending on the time of day.
But morning walks when the summer sun is up before 7 a.m.? That might be worth the trade-off.
