Sphere of Influence in the Mom-O-Verse

I’m sitting here with a glass of Colorado whiskey, trying to think up what my niche in the mom-o-verse is.  I am a mom of two lovely-lady-littles. I work full time.  A full-time student, I am working toward my MBA.  I have a capable partner who loves being a dad, and a super-amazing best friend who watches my kids while I am at work 40 hours a week.  I am involved in my kids’ lives, but what makes me special?

Nothing.

And everything.

Mom=Hard Job

Mom-ing is the hardest job I have ever done; and the most important. I determined a while ago while working HARD as a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM) that I was not cut out to do that job.  Even as an introvert, I needed adult interaction.  I couldn’t handle being touched 24-7 and I desperately wanted to pee by myself.  When I was stay-at-homing, I was not the mom my littles needed.

I delved deep into the “granola life” and embraced essential oils and gardening and couponing and meal-planning.  I tried multiple diets as well as creating my own baby food, which I froze and used exclusively for my first-born.  The benefits?  My eldest still loves broccoli and prefers essential oils to mend her ailments over fried food and OTC remedies, but she is barely able to sleep by herself (because, you know, co-sleeping).

My youngest has embraced more emotions in a 24-hour time-frame than I have allowed in my entire life thus far and believes that an ice pack and a pair of pretty shoes and a dress will make her ailments disappear.

What Have I Learned?

My daughters are their own persons.  They are uniquely created in God’s image and created for purpose.

My job as their mother is to foster in them that God-given purpose, fueled by personal-responsibility with a confidence of a woman-who-don’t-need-no-man (but maybe one who wants one, because chivalry is not dead and companionship is cool).  Also, in full disclosure, we love superheroes who have side-kicks. (Mind you, I am not determining who is who in any particular relationship.)  And if you were to ask me, I would likely have to answer that it depends on the scenario and the day as to who is the super hero and who thus plays the side kick.

But, I digress.

My Job in the Mom-O-Verse?

If my girls develop a sense-of-self, a manner of logic in problem-solving, and a level head about them, I am going to consider that a win.  I am raising small humans who will eventually run the world, as Queen Bey would say.  It has become my job as their mother to determine the best way in which that is to take place.  I can tell you, from my perspective, it will be done reverently and  prayerfully as there has not been a job yet that I have considered so completely a part of myself as this particular one.

It is both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.  And let me just tell you; I am HERE FOR IT.

Rochelle
Rochelle is a desert-rat from Arizona who kept moving north until she hit Colorado Springs; good luck getting her to leave now. She wasted no time snagging her husband under the pretense of athleticism and outdoorsy-ness. Among other things, eleven years of marriage has yielded two beautiful daughters, Harper and Quinn. Momming these super-sassy littles is her biggest adventure yet, and provides for some serious writing material. Rochelle works out of the home also, and has a diverse background in public relations, social work, student advising, youth ministry and pyrotechnics. She is presently finishing up her MBA and is juggling all of it fairly well for a person with little to no hand-eye-coordination. She is a firm believer that it takes a village to raise a child and she is beyond grateful for hers.
