Every year, I find myself looking for a backup plan if the Halloween festivities don’t go to plan. Sometimes it is a freak snowstorm, sometimes a toddler meltdown and sometimes it’s a late meeting. But if this year Covid has you questioning whether to go the traditional route or celebrate the holiday another way, I give you my top five movies for Halloween at home.
So make up a big bowl of popcorn, grab that candy bowl and settle in for some awesome, safe and socially distanced Halloween memories.
My Top 5:
Number 5. Hocus Pocus. I don’t care if this one is for the parents, kids will enjoy it, too. Nothing like bringing back those fond memories of some good ole witches brew.
Number 4. The Nightmare Before Christmas. This might be a better choice for slightly older kids, but is nonetheless a great and scary pick for a Halloween at home.
Number 3. Monster House. Animated, funny and full of entertainment. This one is great for kids, but with good jokes for parents, too.
Number 2. ParaNorman. A good pick for the older kids, (with plenty of adult humor), this fun story is a little scary, but with a good message.
Number 1. Hotel Transylvania. The Hotel Transylvania series are hands-down my favorite “scary” movies to watch with my kids. The jokes are great and clean, the music is top notch and it holds their attention through the very end.
A few other family-friendly Halloween movies:
